Robots - The Future

A couple of days back, on wired.com there was an article showcasing the future for robots. The article had a listing of companies that have invested close to $500 million in research related to robotics. Most of the investment has come from Japapn followed by the United States. As per the article companies are inventing robots that have 'human like' abilities. In short they are termed 'Androids'. Presently Antdoids have the ability to sense human touch. For instance, if u tap on the android's shoulder it will recognize that and say 'yes what can I do' and if u bang on the shoulder it will exclaim 'ouch' :). This has been possible by inventing a close substitute for the muscle tissue which ( a mix ofut some artificial fibres ) that are capable of contraction and expansion in accordance to external stimulus. Also androiids are capable of walking like humans. It has been difficult to substitute the human hand. However in the near future we will have androids that might 'think' like humans.
The concept of androids reminds me of the Star Wars movie series. What was considered a fantasy in those days is close to reality today. In the near future we may get to buy these androids from retaliers. It might become a successful business to market androids as low cost alternatives for human labour. The day of man v/s machines doesnt seem to be very far.
