Fundamentalist Hindutva

Sounds like an irony to me. Hindutva and fundamentalism, doesn't seem right. From what I've experienced all through my life - Hinduism is an epitome of love and harmony. It's more a 'faith following' than a religion. The crux of Vedas, Upanishads and the Gita reveal nothing but love. Yet, time and again - fundamentalism finds it's way into the religion. I fail to understand, what drives these fundamentalists a.k.a 'soldiers of the religion' who wear saffron robes and conduct such heinous activities that make me cringe. I mean, do these guys even know the significance of the saffron color ? The recent incident at a Mangalore pub Amnesia is a testimony of this fundamentalism. What made these guys attack young innocent women at this pub and molest them, that too in the pretext of protecting Hindutva?

Adi Shankaracharya trekked all over the country in the 8th century, unified Hindus and established the core Hindutva principles, not knowing that his followers some day will resort to such acts of violence. Had he known, perhaps he wouldn't have gone that far and for all we know Hinduism as a religion wouldn't have existed. The Amnesia incident is not he first depiction of Hindu fundamentalist behavior. Enough has been said and written about the various 'Hindu-Muslim' riots and killings. However, all those incidents were acts of revenge or jealousy. What motive did the attackers have against the women at Amnesia? In a country filled with degraded morale and absolute lack of respect for women and children, such incidents do more harm than just generating publicity (assuming that was the motive). To top it all, the so called 'leader' of this activist gang 'Sri Rama sene' (what an ironical name btw) gives extremely foolish, immature and ludicrous statements to the press, justifying the attack.

Is hinduism being Talibanized or what ?

Well, the incident perhaps left bad taste but let's not colonize ourselves. The instigated group of people does not represent any religion let alone Hindu that's more like driven by 'what they perceive' the situation is.

Violence is simply the need to control exterior reality taken to its ultimate end. It is a result of failing to face up to the vulnerabilities in the interior world, to face up to the lingering fears and the soft spot in your heart. It is committed only by deeply confused individuals - which is an interesting reflection in a culture that worships the strong religion like Hindu.

In any case, the religion is nothing to do with what masks people wear.

A lot has been spoken about and incidents like these still continue to happen from whichever part of a religious community...seems like everyone wants to be a 'moral police' nowadays.....

So bascially this Sri Rama Sene now wants to go around telling women how to live their lives and by what rules they shud abide???......Somebody give him a brain!

Personally, I feel incidents like this occur with 'sensationalize' quotient. I agree, the attack against anyone who want to exercise their freedom is unacceptable in general. And this bad habit of public to 'moral policing' is big no-no, however what upset's me more is the way this active journalism is conducted.

How come media gets to shoot this? Why cops were not there but media was?. Look at these channels, they always think of the TRP. Worst is, no one is talking about this stray incidence, victims and attackers. Now the attention is all set towards some crappy politicians who are making random statements like "Pub culture is against Indian belief".

After this, it would be slippery slope, some woman-right organization will come in and throw around their crap of mind. Come on! The whole incidence makes mockery of the system. Tells again and again how stupid we all are.

Ideally the Mangalore episode should have handled by cops and small court (not a supreme court!). More we sensationalize this more we get into unwanted conversation. Kill the beast when it's born!

Candy - Nobody can give these guys a brain. Morons.

Sanga - I guess the whole Amnesia episode was a 'media stunt' as the media was tipped well in advance of what was going to happen.

What's funny was this minister giving the 'pub culture' statement LOL. What an idiot
